The main freeway arteries connecting Mountain
View / Los Altos to San Francisco and San Jose airports are
highways 101, 280, and 85.
Traffic in the San Francisco Bay Area is worst
during commute hours, from approximately 7:30 am through 9:30 am
and from 5:00pm to 7:30pm Monday through Friday. Weekend traffic
is usually smooth on both 101 and 280 unless an accident has
occurred.
Traffic on Highway 101 tends to be much more
congested than Highway 280. Both have carpool lanes. 101 should
be avoided during commute hours, particularly in the areas
surrounding the 101 and San Mateo Bridge (Highway 92)
interchange.
The most direct route from San Francisco
Airport to Ralston Hall or Mountain View is Highway 101
Southbound. This route can be used if you are arriving during
non-peak traffic hours. If you are arriving in SFO during peak
traffic hours you may avoid 101 by using highway 380 to connect
to 280 Southbound. This route takes you to Los Altos (El Monte
Blvd Exit). By traversing Los Altos via El Monte you can connect
to Mountain View.
If you are arriving in San Jose International
Airport the most direct route is to take Highway 101 North to
Mountain View. Traffic northbound is worst during the morning
commute and somewhat better in the evening commute.
